Community Shield clue reveals Liverpool's next transfer exit image

Liverpool boss Arne Slot appears unlikely to bring in any new players before the end of the summer transfer window.

Ahead of the September 1 deadline, Slot only had one target in mind, but Newcastle United look to have blocked any chance of an Alexander Isak exit.

The Magpies rejected Liverpool's initial £110m bid for the Sweden international at the start of August with the 25-year-old valued at £150m.

Despite the expectation of another offer, and a possible chase until the final hours of the window, Newcastle have now indicated they will not sell - regardless of Liverpool's offer for the former Real Sociedad star.

Slot has already spent £265m on new faces this summer, including huge moves for Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, and the latter scored on his debut in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace.

Despite their penalty shootout frustration at Wembley, Slot was upbeat at full time, as the Dutchman plots a Premier League title defence in 2025/26.

The focus for the incoming weeks will be to recoup funds following a big spending summer, with £170m already generated through player sales.

Liverpool could 'break even' in terms of purchases and sales before the end of the month with Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa both linked with Anfield exits.

However, as per the latest from the Liverpool Echo, Kostas Tsimikas' absence for the Community Shield is an indication of his future lying away from Merseyside.

Milos Kerkez has come to challenge Andy Robertson at left-back, and Greece international Tsimikas does not want to be third-choice, with widespread transfer interest in the 29-year-old.

Newly-promoted Leeds United are reportedly tracking him but Nottingham Forest could be favourites due to the offer of European football.

Tsimikas has racked up 115 appearances in five seasons at Liverpool, following a 2020 move from Olympiakos, but Slot will now look to bring in around £20m from a potential sale.

Liverpool start their title defence at home to Bournemouth on August 15 before a showdown with Isak and Newcastle on August 25.
