Liverpool kick off the 2025/26 Premier League season at home to Bournemouth on August 15.

The Reds are aiming to defend the title which Arne Slot secured in a superb debut campaign on Merseyside and it's been a big spending summer at Anfield.

As part of an ambitious squad rebuild, the Dutch coach has spent £265m on new faces including a Premier League transfer record deal for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Slot is reportedly preparing a second offer for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, after a £110m bid was turned down at the start of August, with the Magpies struggling to sign a replacement.

The Isak chase will be paused as Liverpool focus on matters at hand with all eyes on Wirtz ahead of his Premier League bow.

The Germany international netted his first club goal in July's friendly win over Yokohama F. Marinos and laid on an assist for fellow new signing Hugo Ekitike in last weekend's FA Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace.

Expectations are high over what Wirtz can add to Slot's new-look attack but there may need to be a settling in period for the 22-year-old.

"Factually we see him as a young player, but I don't see him as one. He won the cup and league in Germany and his mentality is his biggest strength," as per BBC Sport.

"That says a lot, because when you see him play he's so creative. He's mentally strong, he doesn't get distracted by a transfer fee or anything else.

"Good players always find a way to play well in good teams. However, he has to adjust to England, the league, its intensity and his teammates. His adjustment has already gone quite well, more than we expected, that's positive."

Wirtz racked up 16 goals and 13 assists across all competitions in his final campaign in Leverkusen.

12 Bundesliga assists placed him fourth on the overall list from Europe's top five domestic leagues - with only Lamine Yamal, Michael Olise and new teammate Mohamed Salah managing more - and he landed in the Bundesliga's top five for shots on target [35], passes into the penalty area [65] and and through balls [26].
