Gary Lineker is looking forward to seeing Marcus Rashford in a Barcelona shirt ahead of the forward's imminent arrival at the Catalan club.

Rashford landed in Barcelona a few days ago to complete his season-long loan switch to the La Liga giants after a deal was struck with his parent club, Manchester United.

He has since met with Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, and sporting director, Deco, and his medical has been completed.

The 27-year-old's move to Barcelona means he will become the first Englishman since Lineker to put on the iconic blue and garnet shirt.

Lineker revealed to Què t’hi jugues his approval of the transfer amidst the challenges that Rashford has endured.

The former England striker said: "It’s a good signing. He’s a great player. He’s had his problems at United in recent years; he hasn’t played much, but he has a lot of talent."

The 64-year-old then levelled the blame at Rashford's parent club for his struggles, stating: "The problem is Manchester United; those who have come out of there have played better elsewhere."

While some may be unable to see a way into Barcelona's starting line-up for Rashford, considering Flick's attack already deploys Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Dani Olmo, Lineker does not share those concerns.

He explained: "There are a lot of games being played these days and more starters are needed, and Marcus has great quality. I think he’s going to be a great signing. We’ll see, because you never know, but I’m very happy to see him at Barcelona."

The loan deal to take Rashford away from Old Trafford includes Barcelona covering the forward's wages, with him taking a 25 per cent salary cut. Should Flick's side choose to keep the player beyond the year loan, there will be an option to buy for around £30.3 million.

This loan move to Barcelona marks the second successive temporary switch for the forward, after he spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa. That move came after falling out of favour under Manchester United boss, Ruben Amorim.

Rashford will be hoping this move to Spain can revitalise his career and potentially increase his chances of being recalled to the England national team ahead of next summer's FIFA World Cup.

The Englishman is expected to be officially unveiled as a Barcelona player on Wednesday (July 23) in front of the press.
