Marc Casado’s journey at Barcelona has been stellar with the 21-year-old midfielder impressing last season with his composure, intelligence and relentless work in midfield, earning respect from fans and the coaching staff.

Yet his future is under threat because the club continues to struggle with balancing its accounts, a problem that could overshadow their sporting ambitions.

According to multiple reports, Barcelona need to raise funds to register new signings such as Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford, which is forcing difficult conversations about potential departures.

Attempts to move higher earners like Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Andreas Christensen have stalled because their exits appear increasingly unlikely this summer.

That reality has led management to consider other solutions, including the possible sale of Casado despite his contract running until 2028.

According to Mundo Deportivo, opinions within the club are split with some officials insisting he should remain untouchable while others argue that they should consider a sale if the offer is good.

President Joan Laporta has long admired the young midfielder, which makes any decision even more sensitive for the boardroom.

In any case, the uncertainty around the young midfielder’s role has started to attract attention across Europe.

According to Fichajes, Marc Casado is now firmly on the radar of Bayer Leverkusen, with manager Erik ten Hag seeing him as a priority signing to strengthen the midfield.

The German outlets indicate the club is preparing a €30m [$34m] proposal to test Barcelona’s resolve.

Leverkusen, who lifted the Bundesliga title two seasons ago want versatile young players capable of contributing immediately.

Casado fits that profile perfectly and it is reported that player is keeping his head down in preseason while quietly monitoring the negotiations.
