Barcelona did not feature in this summer's FIFA Club World Cup but they could still be in action in the USA before the end of 2025.
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid flew the La Liga flag across the Atlantic, with the former reaching the semifinals, as Barcelona's squad enjoyed an extended break.
However, the coming days could see a historic first for La Liga, with a decision expected over Barcelona potentially playing a La Liga game in the USA in 2025.
As per reports from Diario AS, the Spanish FA [RFEF] and La Liga have submitted a proposal to UEFA to begin the controversial process of allowing a competitive domestic league game to be played outside Spain.
"We have submitted to UEFA a request to initiate procedures for the subsequent authorisation by FIFA of the game on Matchday 17 of the National First Division League Championship between Barcelona and Villarreal to bee played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami USA, on December 20, 2025, in accordance with the FIFA International Match Regulations and the implementing regulations approved by the RFEF."
Fans are split over the determination of the club to play in the USA, as despite financial boost on offer, it's viewed by many supporters as a tradition that should remain unbroken.

La Liga president Javier Tebas is a key driver of the idea, having supported Barcelona's two previous attempts to play in the USA, which were rejected by the RFEF.
RFEF support now strengthens the case, but UEFA and FIFA remain unconvinced over the suggestion, due to fan opposition and questions over the impact on domestic competition integrity.
The match in question is Barcelona's 'away' game at Villarreal on December 20, with their La Liga rivals also landing a share of the financial reward on offer, as Barcelona look to continue growing their brand worldwide.
