Phil Taylor has unbreakable leads in these World Matchplay of Darts stats image

Phil Taylor is undeniably the greatest darts player of all time.

Even if you somehow don't agree with that, the stats back it up.

With the World Matchplay coming up, let's look at one stat that shows how good Taylor has been throughout his career, at one of the most coveted tournaments of the year.

What stat does Taylor have a ridiculous lead in?

Taylor has won 16 World Matchplay titles throughout his career.

That's far more than any other player.

He's competed in 24 World Matchplays in his career, meaning he has won the title in two out of every three appearances.

That seems incredible on its own, but Taylor's lifetime win total at the World Matchplay is something else.

He has won 99 games at the World Matchplay in his career (Weekly Dartscast).

99 wins statistically mean that on average, Taylor was making the final at every World Matchplay tournament (4.13 wins per tournament).

James Wade is second on the win total list with 43 career wins.

That's a 56-win lead for Taylor over the closest player to him in that stat category.

Taylor also has only five more tournament appearances at the World Matchplay than Wade, meaning if Wade were to win the tournament the next five times, Taylor would still have 31 more wins at the World Matchplay than Wade.

It just shows how the longevity of Phil Taylor is unlike anything we have ever seen in darts or sports in general.

Luke Littler had a rough start to his World Matchplay campaign in 2024, but maybe a run in this year's tournament could be the start he needs to get a sliver of a chance to one day catch up to Taylor's win total.
