India held their nerve on the last day at The Oval and edged past England by just six runs in a nail-biting finish to wrap up the fifth and final Test This resulted in a 2-2 draw in the five-match series.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a heartfelt message after the win and  praised the fight and spirit shown by the Indian team under pressure.

How did India seal a win in the final Test and draw the series?

On the final morning of the Oval Test, India needed four more wickets to stop England from chasing down a challenging 374-run target.

The previous day had ended with England at 339/6 and the weather played a part, with bad light and rain cutting the day short.

India didn’t let the momentum slip away. Siraj rose to the occasion, dismissing the final batter Gus Atkinson with a full and fast delivery, finishing with five wickets in the innings.

England were bowled out for 367, just seven runs short of the target. With this thrilling finish, India levelled the series 2-2.

Earlier in the match, Prasidh Krishna also made a strong impact with the ball. He picked four crucial wickets and ended with figures of 4/126.

What did Gautam Gambhir say after India’s big win?

Soon after the game, Gautam Gambhir took to social media to express his pride. His message read, “We’ll win some, we’ll lose some…. but we’ll NEVER surrender! Well done boys.”

It was a proud coach speaking. The message wasn’t about trophies or records, but about the heart his players showed on a tough Day 5.
