After dominating the ODI series, England will look to seal the T20I series as well when they face the West Indies in the second match on Sunday.

England has regained their lost form and aggressive approach in the white-ball cricket under the leadership of Harry Brook. They defeated West Indies by 21 runs in the first T20I match in Durham on Friday. While batting first, England posted 188 for 6; credit goes to Jos Buttler (96 off 59) and Jamie Smith (38 off 20 balls) for their assault. Later, the West Indies were restricted to 167 for 9. Liam Dawson (4 for 20) bowled an economical and match-winning spell to seal the match for England and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Meanwhile, the West Indies were coming into this series after losing the ODI leg 0-3 to the England team. They showed resilience to fight, but they fell short by 21 runs in the first T20I match against England. With just two matches left in the series, West Indies will look to rectify their mistakes and bounce back in the second match.

England vs. West Indies predicted XIs, team news

England crushed West Indies in the first T20I match and took 1-0 lead in the three match series. They might have missed their wicketkeeper batter Phil Salt, who pulled out from the T20I series due to Paternity leave and Jamie Smith was given a chance. Smith opened the innings along with Duckett and played a brilliant aggressive knock. Stepping as a replacement for Salt, Jamie Smith filled the void perfectly.

Jos Buttler (96 off 59), the former England skipper, continued his attacking form but fell short by 4 runs to his second T20I ton. The top-order responsibilities will be relying on his shoulders in the next two matches. Jacob Bethell (unbeaten 23 & 2 for 27) was also a standout performer from the match.

The left-arm spinner, Liam Dawson (4 for 20) made his grand return to England T20I team after 3 years with his economical bowling spell. Matthew Pott was handed his debut cap in the first match and he will likely be playing in the next matches as well.

England predicted XI: Brook (c), Banton, Duckett, Buttler (wk), Dawson, Smith, Bethell, Jacks, Potts, Rashid, Carse.

As for the West Indies, Jason Holder and Andre Russell returned to the T20I team but their performance were not up to the mark. West Indies have been facing a batting crisis in this format, despite having players like Shai Hope, Johnson Charles, Sherfane Rutherford in their batting lineup, they are failing continuously.

After winning the IPL 2025 trophy with RCB, Romario Shepherd returned to the West Indies squad for the national duties and took two wickets in his bowling spell. Gudakesh Motie, who scored a fifty in the final ODI match, featured in the first match. Akeal Hosein is warming the bench currently but if West Indies sees an opportunity then he can be added to the playing xi for the second match.

West Indies predicted XI: Charles, Lewis, Hope (c & wk), Rutherford, Motie/Hosein, Powell, Shepherd, Chase, Joseph, Holder, Russell.
