The 45th Ryder Cup is just weeks away, as golf fans around the world get ready for the ultimate team event in the sport.
For those possibly unaware of the basic details, the Ryder Cup is a team event between Europe and the USA, which involves various matchplay competitions between players selected from teams of 12.
On the first two days (Friday and Saturday), there are four fourball matches and four foursome matches on each. A fourball is a match between two teams of two players, where the team with the lower combined score wins, while a foursome sees the two players on each team take alternate shots on each hole, with the lowest score winning a point per hole. The team with the most points after 18 holes is the winner.
On the final day (Sunday), all 12 players play in singles matches, which often go a long way to deciding who will lift the famous gold trophy.
The Sporting News brings you this and even more vital information as the Ryder Cup returns.
Who will win the 2025 Ryder Cup: Latest odds and betting
With the teams yet to be confirmed, the odds are likely to change greatly in the coming weeks, but right now the US are narrow favourites with Betfair over the holders.
They do have home advantage this time, and boast eight of the nine top-ranked players in the world, including long-term World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who comes into the event off the back of his fourth major championship at The Open.
On the other side, Europe have come together better as a team in recent times, and team captain Luke Donald has already led his side to success two years ago in Rome.
The only guarantee is an absolutely epic weekend of golf.

The 2025 Ryder Cup takes place on the weekend of September 26-28, 2025.
The event will start on Friday with the first of the fourballs and foursomes and end with 12 single matches on Sunday, when the winning team will be crowned.
Where is the 2025 Ryder Cup being played?
This edition sees the Ryder Cup head back to America, and to the state of New York for the first time in 30 years.
The Black Course of Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York will be the stage for the greatest team event in golf.
When are the 2025 Ryder Cup teams announced?
Each team has six automatic qualifiers based on Ryder Cup points, and a further six players known as captain's picks.
For the USA, the top six will be confirmed after the BMW Championship ends on August 17th. Team captain Bradley will then make his six captain's picks in the week commencing August 25th.
Scheffler is already qualified, as have JJ Spaun and Xander Schauffele. That trio are set to be joined by Russell Henley and Bryson De Chambeau as automatic qualifiers.
The likes of Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are near-certainties to be selected by Bradley, who finds himself facing a difficult decision over whether to play while also captaining the team. Ranked 12th in the world, he could be become the first playing captain since the iconic Arnold Palmer in 1963.
Foe the European team, the top six will be confirmed after the Betfred British Masters on August 24th. Skipper Donald will make his six captain's picks in the week commencing September 1st.
Masters champion and Ryder Cup legend Rory McIlroy is already qualified for his eighth appearance. Justin Rose booked his place with a thrilling victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, while Tommy Fleetwood is also sure of his spot despite suffering another late collapse at the same event.
Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Sepp Straka are likely to join that triumvirate.
Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland are among the frontrunners for captain's picks, with Donald likely to trust much of the team that delivered two years ago.

The US dominance of the event saw the expansion to a full European team in 1979, and has resulted in a stunning reversal of fortunes. Of the 22 events since, Europe has emerged victorious on 12 occasions, the US on nine occasions, with a tie in 1989.
