Hot on the heels of his historic triumph at The Masters, all eyes are likely to be on Rory McIlroy when the 2025 PGA Championship tees off at Quail Hollow, North Carolina on Thursday.
The Northern Irishman leads the betting for the 107th hosting of the second major of the year, only a month on from his playoff victory over Justin Rose at Augusta that finally ended his 11-year wait for a career Grand Slam.
McIlroy — who has four previous wins at Quail Hollow, the last coming in 2024, and also holds the course record — is understandably fancied to extend his superb streak. He's as short as 10/3 at the time of writing, although you can still back him at a very appealing 5/1 with AK Bets to go back-to-back in the majors.
McIlroy's likely competition will come from the Americans, with the ever-reliable Scottie Scheffler also 11/2 with the same firm, while Bryson DeChambeau is 8/1 and Justin Thomas can be had at 22/1.
DeChambeau in particular is an interesting choice — like McIlroy, his game should suit this course to a tee (excuse the pun). Quail Hollow is set up for big hitters and DeChambeau's natural ability to draw the ball also gives him an edge on the multiple tricky dog-leg holes that dot the back nine.
He's also in strong form after picking up his first win of the season last week at the LIV Golf Korea.
His ability to bounce back will definitely be tested after he threw away the lead to end tied for fifth at The Masters, but he is worth taking to lead early (he's 18/1 with 10bet to lead after the first round), and maybe even go all the way.
An outside shot for a strong finish is Ludvig Aberg. The Swede has struggled since finishing seventh at Augusta and was only tied-60th at the Truist Championship last week, but he has finished inside the top 10 three times in his last 10 appearances on the Tour. He is also just outside the world's top 25 for driving distance (308.2 yards), which should set him up nicely this week.
Taking Aberg each way at 20/1 with betway, who are paying out on eight places, is a decent option.
There are, of course, plenty of other names in the frame, and both Jon Rahm and 2024 champion Xander Schauffele can be had at a best-priced 22/1 with AK Bets.
But what do the official World Golf Rankings tell us about who might come out on top? Below are the latest standings heading into the second major of the year — although a reminder that players on the LIV Tour, such as DeChambeau, do not collect world ranking points for playing in LIV events.
