In arguably the pick of all the group games at the Women's European Championships, England and France meet in Zurich in a game that could well be a final preview.

The Lionesses are the defending champions, but are not quite the side they were in 2022, and not just because of the retirements of Mary Earps and Fran Kirby, among others.

Sarina Wiegman's side have won just three of their six games in 2025, and suffered a shock loss to Belgium in the Nations League. However, they will hope their stunning major tournament group form will continue here; they have won a record 14 in a row, and will aim to make it 15 against the French.

Les Bleus come into the tournament in brilliant form, having won all eight of their games this calendar year and kept six clean sheets in doing so.

They have never made the final of a major tournament before, but this could be their best chance under Laurent Bonadei.

According to Betfair, the Lionesses are favourites at 11/10, with the French back at 15/8. The draw is also at the same odds, which looks a good price.

The Sporting News presents odds and predictions to bet and make the match more exciting.

Both Teams To Score and draw in 90 mins: 100/30 (Betway)

Both of these sides love to attack, and they are very evenly matched. They met twice in qualifying, with both games seeing the away side run out 2-1 winners. A third meeting could see the two cancel one another out in a thrilling draw, which will probably suit both.

Sandy Baltimore to score anytime: 100/30 (Betway)

At the same odds is Baltimore to score, which is a very good price considering her brilliant form for Chelsea last season as the Blues went unbeaten in the league and won a domestic treble. Facing off against players she plays every week in the WSL, she will fancy her chances of exploiting their weaknesses.

Bonadei is set to pick his strongest side, which includes superstar striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto, as well as Chelsea's Sandy Baltimore, who scored twice in their FA Cup final win over Manchester United in May.

  • France predicted XI (4-3-3, right to left): Peyraud-Magnin (GK) - Bacha, Lakrar, Mbock Bathy, De Almeida - Karchaoui, Toletti, Geyoro - Baltimore, Katoto, Diani

The big question for Wiegman is whether to start Chelsea star Lauren James. She came off the bench in the 7-0 win over Jamaica, but caution may be taken following injury with the tournament only getting underway.
