Neeraj had earlier won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 games and is known for his consistency, as he is currently ranked second best in the world in Men's javelin throw.
He finished second with a best throw of 89.45m at the Olympic games, only behind an Olympic-record throw from Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who breached the 90 metre mark, at 92.97m.
In the Lausanne Diamond League 2024 in Switzerland, India's Neeraj once again finished second with a best throw in his fifth attempt at 89.45, which was his season best. However, he had to settle for a silver medal against as Anderson Peters, who breached the 90m mark, won first place.

In his javelin throw career so far, India's Chopra has breached the 90m mark once. His personal best throw in his career came during the 2025 Doha Diamond League, where he threw 90.23m in his third attempt.
When he won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games, he was able to secure the gold medal with a throw of 87.58, however, the competition has only gotten more intense since then.
In his last two competitions, at the Paris Olympics 2024 and in the recent Lausanne Diamond League, he missed out on the gold medal as the winner had breached the 90m mark.
His second-best throw came at the Olympiastadion, Stockholm, in Sweden on June 2022, where he finished with a throw of 89.94m.
