Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James rewrote the record books tonight, passing Karl Malone for second all-time in scoring.

He entered tonight's contest against the Washington Wizards needing just 20 points to move into second place and midway through the second quarter he tied Malone's career total of 32,968 with a 3-pointer from the left wing.  

Before the half was done, he took sole possession of No. 2 all-time, finishing at the rim off the feed from Stanley Johnson. 

As the 37-year-old received a standing ovation from the D.C. crowd, players around the NBA, past and present, joined in the praise, taking to Twitter to congratulate The King.
