Cousins and the Mets were in Bayamon to take on the Vaqueros. During the game, he got into a verbal altercation with a courtside fan that quickly turned physical.

As he and the fan verbally sparred, Cousins made an obscene gesture and then appeared to attempt to snatch something from the fan's hand. Pinson was the first of several teammates to step in and intervene, but Cousins raised his arms as if he was going to hit the fan.

Cousins was eventually taken away from the fan, but things escalated further once he was ejected from the contest.

As Cousins walked off the court,  Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" began playing from the PA system at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum. Fans continued to jeer Cousins, taunting him with thumbs down and their middle fingers.

In response, Cousins got in a few fans' faces, giving them the middle finger back. After Cousins' animated response, fans began to pelt him with alcoholic beverages and food.

Cousins did not take well to having food and drinks thrown at him, and he attempted to get toward the spectator stands to physically confront the fans. An alternate angle shows Cousins needed to be held down by several staffers and security

Cousins finished the game with 11 points in 27 minutes, but the Mets fell, 101-91. Later that day, the league announced that it suspended Cousins for the rest of the season.
