Kyrie Irving contract details: Mavericks lock up star PG through first few years of Cooper Flagg era image

The Mavericks made a key move on Tuesday night, agreeing to a new deal with star Kyrie Irving that keeps the point guard in Dallas for three more years.

Irving, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL, has spent parts of the past three seasons in Dallas, which included winning the Western Conference in 2023-24. The 33-year-old became an even more important part of the organization when the Mavericks traded Luka Doncic in the middle of the season.

While Irving won't be ready for the start of next year, he and Anthony Davis form a dynamic duo with expected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg also being added to the mix.

Here are the details of Irving's new contract with the Mavericks.

ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Irving is declining his $43 million player option for next year to sign a three-year deal with Dallas worth $119 million. It includes a player option for the final season.

Irving had previously been playing on a similar three-year, $120 million deal that he first signed with the Mavericks in 2023.

With Irving's extension, Irving and Davis are now on the same timeline as they both have contracts running through the 2027-28 season. This gives Dallas a notable window in which they can compete for a title with both of their stars.

However, this doesn't include Cooper Flagg, whom the Mavericks are expected to take first overall in the NBA Draft on Wednesday night. Flagg will sign a four-year deal and won't be eligible for an extension and raise until Irving and Davis' contracts expire.
