Yograj Singh tears into Shreyas Iyer after IPL final loss - 'It was a criminal offence ........' image

Punjab Kings fell 6 runs short of lifting their first Indian Premier League title on Tuesday night against the eventual winners, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, after topping the table following the league phase.

This was the first time since the 2014 final that the Kings made it to the playoffs where they won the toss and decided to field first and restricted the Royal Challengers at 190 after chasing down 204 on the same venue a couple of days back.

However, the hero of Qualifier 2, Shreyas Iyer, could not replicate his performance from the previous night as he only managed to score 1(2) in the final at a crucial juncture as he was caught behind by Jitesh Sharma off Romario Shepherd.

Following the loss, former India cricketer Yograj Singh, who is often in the news for his strong words in the media, looked disappointed him Iyer and called his shot a criminal offence. See what he had to say.

What did Yograj Singh say about Shreyas Iyer's shot in the IPL  final?

While reviewing Iyer's batting a day after the game, Singh told of an incident where the late Ashok Mankad had spoken to him about throwing wickets away in such fashion and thought that the captain should be banned for a couple of games.

"The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this are that you will be banned for two matches," Singh said to ANI.

"What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that," he added.

How did Shreyas Iyer perform in IPL 2025?

After being bought for 26.75 crore at the mega auction, Iyer repaid the faith shown in him and ended the season just outside the top-5 in the race for the orange cap, with the fifth-placed Marsh only 23 runs ahead at 627.
