The IPL 2025 final is drawing near and there is an unexpected twist that could decide the fate of the tournament -- rain. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are set to clash for the title on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

It’s a historic moment regardless of the result - neither franchise has ever won the IPL and one is set to break their title drought. Unless of course, the weather has other plans.

RCB stormed into the final after a dominant win over PBKS in Qualifier 1 while Punjab bounced back strongly to knock out Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2.

The final promises some great action - RCB have beaten PBKS twice in their last three encounters while Punjab have won both of their games at the Ahmedabad venue this season. But with rain delaying PBKS’ Qualifier 2 match by over two hours, concerns are growing that the final might be interrupted.

What if rain spoils the IPL 2025 final?

Thankfully, the IPL 2025 final has a reserve day in place. If the final is rained out on Tuesday, it will be played on Wednesday, June 4.

However, if rain prevents play on both days - the rules offer a backup plan. According to the IPL’s playing conditions (clause 16.11), a Super Over will be attempted to break the deadlock.

If even that isn't possible due to persistent rain, the title will go to the team that finished higher on the league table.

If it comes down to the league standings - Punjab Kings will be crowned champions. Both RCB and PBKS ended the league season with 19 points (9 wins and a no-result) but Punjab edged out RCB on net run rate - +0.372 to RCB’s +0.301.

So, if rain washes out both the final and the reserve day without a ball being bowled, Punjab Kings will lift their maiden IPL trophy by virtue of finishing first in the table.
