Under Iyer's captaincy, PBKS have received a fresh injection of energy, as they have won seven out of their eleven matches so far, including clinching a low-scoring thriller against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Punjab have been a team to beat this season as they look to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2014, where they finished as runners-up to the Knight Riders.

Is Shreyas Iyer carrying an injury against RR?

According to TOI's Sahil Malhotra, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer is reportedly nursing a finger injury, but he decided to take the field against RR in the crucial IPL encounter.

He came to bat in the first innings and scored 30 runs off 25 balls as his team posted a massive total of 219 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.

Iyer came to bat after the BBL star, Mitchell Owen, departed for a duck and built a nice partnership with the youngster Nehal Wadhera to stabilise Punjab's innings after they lost their top three in quick succession.

Iyer scored a 25-ball 30 before falling prey to Riyan Parag, far from his usual brand of batting, as it was evident that the PBKS was struggling. However, Iyer didn't want to miss this crucial game, as a win today can hand them their first playoff spot after 11 years.
