It is getting to that point in the season where every single match feels like a final. With just a few league games left, the fight for the playoffs in IPL 2025 is heating up.

One of the biggest games of the week is between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium but rain might spoil the fun.

Both teams are still in with a chance to qualify for the knockouts but neither is fully safe yet. This clash is a high-pressure match. A no-result could leave both sides in a tight spot while a win for either could tilt the playoff race in their favour.

Let’s look at how each possible outcome- a win for MI, a win for DC, or a washout- could affect the IPL 2025 points table.

What happens if Mumbai beat Delhi?

If Mumbai come out on top, they will jump straight to 16 points, which will seal their spot in the playoffs. It’ll also give them some breathing room ahead of their final match against Punjab Kings.

This will also mean Delhi stay on 13 points and even if they win their last game, they can only reach 15 which will not be enough for them to qualify.

What if Delhi manage to defeat Mumbai?

A win for Delhi changes the equation completely. They’ll move to 15 points, leapfrogging Mumbai who would remain stuck at 14. That would knock MI out of the top four for the time being.

However, this doesn’t guarantee Delhi a place either. They would still need to beat Punjab in their final league game to reach 17 and confirm a spot.

If they lose to PBKS and Mumbai beat Punjab in their last game, then DC will again fall behind MI in the points table and miss out.

What if the match is washed out due to rain?

If the weather doesn’t cooperate and the match gets abandoned, both teams will take home just one point. This would take MI to 15 points and DC to 14, keeping things tight in the middle of the table.

The playoff race would then move to the final day, with both sides needing strong finishes. If Mumbai beat Punjab in their last game, they’ll reach 17 and go through. But if MI lose and Delhi beat Punjab, DC will finish with 16 and push Mumbai out.

On the other hand, if both teams lose their last games, Mumbai still go through because they already have that one-point edge. And in case both teams win, MI will still stay ahead with 17 points and will qualify ahead of Delhi Capitals.
