End of match: PBKS won by 7 wickets
Punjab Kings cruised to an 8-wicket win over Mumbai Indians to book their place in Qualifier 1, securing a valuable top-two finish. It was a commanding performance from PBKS in a chase that never looked out of control.
The match was sealed by a brilliant second-wicket stand between Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis. Both batters were in top form, bringing up their fifties. Skipper Shreyas Iyer walked in during the closing stages and finished the match in style with a big six.
With this win, Punjab Kings leapfrog GT to the top of the table and head into Qualifier 1 with two shots at a place in the final.
End of 10 overs: PBKS - 89/1
Superb phase of play for PBKS as they reach 89/1 after 10 overs, needing just 96 more from the remaining 60 balls. They’ve added 42 runs in the last 4 overs without losing a wicket, shifting the momentum firmly in their favour.
Josh Inglis (35* off 23) and Priyansh Arya (37* off 21) have built a strong partnership. Arya has continued his fluent touch from the powerplay, while Inglis has played with sheer aggression.
Bumrah bowled a tight 10th over, giving away just 5 runs and finishing with excellent figures so far – 2-0-6-1. However, PBKS are now slightly ahead in the chase with 9 wickets in hand and two set batters at the crease.
End of powerplay: PBKS- 47/1
PBKS are 47 for 1 after the first six overs. Priyansh Arya has been the standout so far, playing some really good shots and scoring 24 runs off just 12 balls. Josh Inglis is at the other end with 8 runs from 8 balls.
Deepak Chahar bowled a maiden first over but went for 16 runs in his second. Jasprit Bumrah made an immediate impact by getting rid of Prabhsimran Singh with his second ball and giving away just one run in his first over.
End of innings: MI - 184/7
Suryakumar Yadav's 57 off 39 deliveries helped Mumbai post a fighting total of 184 in their quota of 20 overs. Namand Dhir played well for his 12-ball 20, which could prove to be valuable runs in the context of the game.
The final over from Arshdeep Singh was a testament to a bowler's importance in the T20 format, as the left-arm pacer gave away just three runs and took the all-important wicket of Yadav on the last ball of the innings.
Punjab need 185 to win to book their place in the top two of the points table.
End of 15 overs: MI - 131/4
Tilak Varma's woeful season continues as he departed for a single-digit score again. The batter tried to check his shot at the last moment, but it was too late, as he presented a simple catch to Arshdeep Singh at deep third man. Will Jacks played a quickfire 17 off 8 deliveries before mistiming a slower from Vyshak Vijay Kumar, as Marco Jansen at long on made no mistake.
Yadav (37) and Hardik Pandya (14) will look to maximize the last five overs and provide a fighting total to defend against PBKS.
End of 10 overs: MI - 83/2
Hitman Rohit Sharma departed after a 21-ball 24 as he tried to clear the long-on boundary but could only find the hands of their former player Nehal Wadhera, who took a clean catch diving in front.
Yadav (28) and Tilak Varma (1) will look to stabilize the innings and take the game forward from here.
End of powerplay: MI - 52/1
Mumbai lost their first wicket in the form of Ryan Rickelton, who started well, but his innings ended prematurely as he tried to heave it onto the on-side, but the ball struck the sticker of the bat and could only go as far as skipper Shreyas Iyer in the mid-on region.
Rohit Sharma (17) and Suryakumar Yadav (5) will look to build a partnership from here and maintain the required pace for the match.
