No changes needed for LSG in IPL 2026? Just get injured Indian pacers fit, says Virender Sehwag image

The Lucknow Super Giants finished their campaign for the Indian Premier League season with a 6-wicket loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27 at the Ekana stadium.

Once again, the talking point in LSG's defeat came to their bowling. Rishabh Pant's 118*(61) provided the side with a good first innings total of 227 runs, but it was chased successfully after the stand-in RCB skipper Jitesh Sharma's excellent 85*(33) when 105 runs were needed off 52 needed at one point.

LSG has struggled with their bowling performances throughout the season after suffering constant blows with injuries to their India-heavy pace contingent.

This has raised the question on how LSG should approach next season and whether they should make changes by releasing certain players. However, as per Sehwag, there is no need for such measures and he suggested that the Pant-led side can still turn around their fortunes next year..

See what Sehwag had to say about the changes needed in LSG in 2026 as they look to bounce back after the 2025 season.

Virender Sehwag believes LSG don't need changes in IPL 2026

While dissecting the loss against RCB with Cricbuzz, Sehwag spoke about the injury woes around the Lucknow camp in this season, costing them the tournament and that they are still good to go in 2026.

"I think, if the unfit players in their squad are back fit and available, they will have a greater impact. Mayank Yadav and Akash Deep were injured, and Avesh Khan was also injured initially before joining the team," said Sehwag.

"They have enough match-winning overseas batters, now their bowling — their top 3-4 Indians being fit would help them. Not much needs to be done," he added.

He also thought that the absence of their key Indian pacers to injury turned out as the difference between their current position and qualifying for the playoffs, as they were just four points away from the fourth-place Mumbai Indians.

"One or two better games would have done the trick for them. The teams qualified with 16 points, and they have 12. They could have been in the race, but they were not because of the unavailability of their bowlers. Today [against PBKS], they lost despite scoring 230 because the bowlers didn't bowl [well]."

"They only need one more spinner, whether it is a left-arm spinner or any other. Bishnoi did not have a good spinner, and they would want a backup option available for such cases," he emphasised.
