Veteran Indian cricketer MS Dhoni reportedly skipped training two days in a row ahead of Chennai Super Kings' Indian Premier League 2025 game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

CSK are set to face KKR in match no. 57 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday, May 7, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The reverse fixture in Chepauk saw the Knights emerge victorious by 8 wickets, thanks to their exceptional bowling as they restricted the Men in Yellow to a low score of 103. KKR chased the score in just 10.1 overs, thanks to handy knocks from Sunil Narine and Rinku Singh.

CSK have already been eliminated from this year's competition, and they will look to play for pride and spoil the party for KKR as they continue their quest for qualifying for the playoffs.

The CSK stand-in captain didn't train on Monday, and followed the same routine on Tuesday, which left fans in doubt over the veteran wicket-keeper's participation in tomorrow's game against the Knights.

Meanwhile, CSK's bowling coach has provided an update regarding the Dhoni's participation in tomorrow's game.

CSK bowling coach provides verdict on Dhoni's participation

CSK bowling coach Eric Simmons has provided an update regarding Dhoni's unavailability in training and whether he will be facing the Knight Riders in tomorrow's game.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Simmons said, "With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well, he knows where he is in terms of his preparations."

Simmons further added that the veteran always works hard at the beginning of the tournament and allows himself to cool off at this age to get himself ready. He confirmed that Dhoni is absolutely fine and will play the game against KKR.

"He always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he is ready. So, no issues. He will play tomorrow."

Dhoni took over captaincy after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out mid-season due to an elbow injury. Simmons provided insight on how the veteran has been helping the young batter with the captaincy of the esteemed franchise.

"He (Dhoni) doesn’t impose himself on anybody, he was always an influence, So, it was a very smooth transition because of the closeness of his relationship with Rutu and the way he has advised and nurtured Rutu, both from selection conversations through to tactics on the field."
