It's been a long road back for Eder Militao. Twice in two years, the Brazilian’s knees have let him down, forcing him through months of rehabilitation and raising doubts over his Real Madrid future.
Yet, after a standout preseason, Los Blancos believe his injury nightmare is now over.
Militao tore his right ACL in the opening match of the 2023/24 season and then, in November last year, suffered the same injury in his other knee.
Speaking during the FIFA Club World Cup, he admitted the struggle has been very hard: "I feel good, happy to be able to be on the field helping my teammates.
"It was a very difficult time for me, another cruciate ligament injury, but I prepared hard and was strong. It's a very tough injury for any athlete."
Xabi Alonso, who has eased him back into the lineup, views Militao as a vital part of his plans, provided his recovery stays on track.

Real Madrid block Saudi Pro League interest in Militao
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been approached by clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Their message to those suitors has been blunt: "If the player asks, it will be considered... but we don't want to sell, and if he does ask, not for less than €45m [$52m]," revealed by the Spanish outlet.

The defender has shown no intention of wanting to move on.
Militao, who arrived from Porto in 2019 for €50m [$58m] extended his contract until 2028 last year, and he could be Dean Huijsen's long-term partner in Alonso's back line.
