Newcastle United have stepped up their interest in Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface after a potential move to Saudi Arabia fell through earlier this year.
The Nigerian international was once headed for the Middle East during the January window, but the deal didn’t materialize, and now Newcastle are looking to pounce.
With Eddie Howe’s side desperate for more firepower, Boniface could be the answer, especially as Leverkusen have reportedly set a €50 million [$56m] price tag on the 23-year-old.
Alexander Isak has carried the scoring load this season, netting 21 goals in all competitions, but hasn’t found a consistent backup.

Sources close to the club suggest they’re now targeting a second elite forward, and Boniface, who impressed last season with 21 goals and 10 assists, has become one of the major targets.

Boniface has endured a tough season.
Boniface’s 2024/ 2025 campaign hasn’t matched his breakout year, and after an early-season injury, he struggled for rhythm, finishing with just 11 goals and two assists across all competitions.
His place in the starting XI has faded, and with Erik ten Hag reportedly backing Patrik Schick to stay at Leverkusen, Boniface looks set to leave.
According to BILD, Schick’s retention makes Boniface’s departure likely.
Rheinische Post echoes that, according to them, all signs now point to his departure.
Whether Newcastle meet the €50m asking price remains uncertain. They may push for a lower fee, especially given the player’s dip in form.
However, if Howe gets his man, Boniface could bring much-needed depth to Newcastle's attack.
