Manchester United receives fresh update on Viktor Gyokeres transfer saga image

Manchester United fans hoping for a new No. 9 might have to wait a little longer. Viktor Gyokeres, one of Europe’s hottest strikers, has shared a new update on his future — and it doesn’t offer many clues.

The Swedish forward has been linked with United all summer, but his latest comments suggest no deal is close.

The 27-year-old scored an incredible 54 goals in 52 matches for Sporting Lisbon last season, firing them to a league and cup double.

Naturally, those numbers caught the attention of top clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona. But United remain in the race.

Gyokeres recently made an appearance on the Flymodus podcast with former teammate Leo Ostigard.

When asked where he was going this summer, the striker smiled and replied, “We will see. Nobody knows anything yet. I wish I had a more fun answer, but that’s all I can say for now.”

That’s not quite a transfer announcement, but it does keep the window wide open — pun fully intended.

While concluding the podcast, Ostigard said: "Viktor, great talking to you. See you soon, and text me when everything is signed and sorted down in Arsenal."

To which Gyokeres jokingly, responded: "Yeah, yeah, sure."

How much would teams need to pay for Viktor Gyokeres?

While some reports suggest Sporting could sell for around £60 million, the actual release clause stands at a hefty £84 million.

Whether United are ready to match that remains uncertain. There’s also growing belief that Sporting may accept a lower offer, especially with Gyokeres recovering from a minor injury and missing international duty with Sweden.

To make things even more interesting, Gyokeres recently spoke to Vogue Scandinavia and said, “Lisbon is one of the best cities in Europe. I feel at home.”

That may sound like a stay-at-home striker, but with football, you never know — even the best finishers like to keep defenders guessing.

As United continue to explore other targets like Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo, the Gyokeres saga rolls on.

For now, the only thing we know for sure is that fans will need a little more patience before this one hits the back of the net.
