Cole Palmer inspired Chelsea to an incredible comeback win over Real Betis in the final of the UEFA Conference League. The victory helped Chelsea become the first club to win every major European club trophy on offer and wrapped up an incredibly positive campaign for the Blues.
The Blues are back in next year’s Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League. On top of that, Enzo Maresca secured his first piece of silverware as the club’s head coach with the Conference League success.
Cole Palmer, 23, certainly left his mark on the cup final with two magical assists in the comeback victory over Betis. He delivered an individual masterclass in the second half to galvanise his struggling side, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
Palmer’s vision, composure, and creativity were on full display, with both assists highlighting his ability to change the game in a moment. His first assist set the tone for the turnaround, while the second showcased his awareness and technique under pressure.
The young Englishman has quickly become one of the most important figures in Chelsea’s attack and continues to prove his worth on the biggest stage.
However, despite Palmer’s sublime performance against Betis, former Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has claimed that the English international still needs to learn one thing.

He explained that the Chelsea talisman will need to learn how to deal with opponents being extra cautious of his threat. As his reputation grows, Palmer is likely to face more tightly marked games and defensive strategies designed specifically to contain him.
What Zola said about Palmer’s performance after the game against Real Betis
When discussing Blues star Palmer after the Conference League final, Zola told talkSPORT: “He was exceptional. The first pass for the first goal, I think it was incredible… I was very pleased for him also because it’s been tough… He’s becoming more and more known by the opposition, so he needs to learn how to handle this situation. Yesterday in the second half, he was exceptional, so I’m very pleased for him.”
