World Cup winner urges Chelsea to hijack Man United's move for star striker image

Chelsea are ready to bring in a list of new players this summer, starting with Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, alongside sustained interest in Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund and Mike Maignan at AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are also looking to rebuild their squad following a disastrous season and the two clubs could come into direct competition with each other, as target lists are drawn up.

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and have their set their sights on Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

The Cameroon international has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford, but former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has advised the Blues to try and hijack the move, to bring the 20-goal striker to from the Bees.

While speaking to ESPN about Delap’s imminent arrival at Stamford Bridge, Leboeuf said: "The expectation is going to be big and the pressure will be huge, hopefully it’s going to work, but we won’t know until he gets there and starts playing games.

"I was wondering why Bryan Mbeumo doesn’t want to come to Chelsea. Was it a possibility or not?"

“Maybe he knows better, but I would love to see him at Chelsea, and think he would have been very good for the club."

Brentford will demand a transfer fee in the region of £50m [$67m] for the 25-year-old who became the first Brentford player to score 20 top-flight goals since Ivan Toney at the end of 2024/25.

No Chelsea player scored over 15 goals across all competitions with Cole Palmer once again the Blues top scorer as Enzo Maresca's side sealed the UEFA Conference League
