Gill's 269 was not just a personal milestone - it revived India's hopes in the five-match Test series after the loss in Leeds. Now, a behind-the-scenes look suggests it might have been shaped by one of India's greatest white-ball stars.

Yuvraj trained Gill before England tour, says Yograj

Speaking in Chandigarh, Yograj Singh revealed that Yuvraj had personally worked with Gill in the lead-up to the England tour.

"Yuvraj Singh personally coached Shubman Gill," Yograj said, calling the India skipper a "great player" and praising the training he received.

"Shubman Gill is a great player... One should learn from Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir about how to coach players," he added.

Yograj also made an impassioned comparison to Brian Lara's legendary 500-run first-class knock, saying, "If Brian Lara can score 500 runs, why can't us?"

Shubman Gill's 269 is now the highest score by an Indian in a Test match in England, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar's 221 from 1979. With India 5 down at 211, Gill's innings powered the team to 587 all out.

He struck 30 fours and 3 sixes. The knock also capped a fine all-round day for Gill - who later pulled off a diving catch in the slips to dismiss Ben Duckett and help India reduce England to 77/3 by stumps.

After their dramatic collapse at Headingley, India have bounced back hard. And Gill's captain's innings has been central to it.

With England still trailing by over 500 runs and three wickets already down, India are in a strong position to level the series before the Lord's Test.
