England won the toss and batted first. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got off to a good start, and England went into lunch at 100/2. However, they slid from 175/3 to 218 all out, Kuldeep Yadav taking five wickets.

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a quick start, putting India in a strong position at stumps.

Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes fastest player since Vinod Kambli to score 1000 Test runs

During his knock of 214* in the second innings in the third Test in Rajkot, Jaiswal broke several records, scaling heights any batter would be proud to do. In Ranchi and Dharamshala, he kept on going.

Since making his debut against West Indies in July 2023, Jaiswal is playing just his 16th Test innings, but has already crossed the milestone of 1000 Test runs. He became the second fastest Indian to reach the 1000-run mark behind Vinod Kambli, the fastest in the last 30 years, and the fourth fastest of all time.

In terms of matches played (nine), only one batter has ever reached the milestone quicker than Jaiswal's nine; Donald Bradman reached it in his seventh Test match, in 1930. Herbert Sutcliffe, Everton Weekes and George Headley achieved the feat in nine matches.
