The 3rd Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy between India and England is underway at the Home of Cricket. England batted brilliantly on Day 1, piling up 251 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets by the end of the day's play, which raised concerns for the young Indian side.

India's concerns deepened during the second session of Day 1 when the star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered a blow to the index finger of his left hand. Pant was struck on the finger while collecting a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah.

Will Pant keep wickets on Day 2?

After the blow to his finger, Pant was seen in a lot of pain. While he received on-field treatment and initially tried to continue, he ultimately had to leave the field due to the severity of the injury. Pant was replaced by Dhruv Jurel as the wicket-keeper.

The BCCI issued a statement providing an update on Pant, where they stated that the Indian vice-captain got hit on his left index finger, for which he is receiving treatment and is under the supervision of the medical team.

Although there are no official updates about the extent of his injury, Pant is highly unlikely to feature on Day 2 of the Lord's Test.

Meanwhile, the hosts, England also face an injury concern, as the English skipper Ben Stokes appeared to be struggling with a groin injury while batting, requiring on-field medical treatment and showing visible difficulty running between wickets during his partnership with Joe Root.

Is England back to traditional red-ball cricket?

With the series hanging in the balance at 1-all, the English side was seen with a renewed approach while batting on Day 1 of the Lord's Test. England batters were visibly back to the old traditional Test match batting, away from their attacking approach.

England ended the day on 251/4, their second-lowest Day 1 total in the Bazball era, scoring at a run rate of just 3.02. However, with a well-set Joe Root batting on 99 and skipper Stokes accompanying him well, England will feel they are in control of the game at the end of first day's play.
