On Tuesday, July 15, the England Cricket Board (ECB) announced their squad for the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford.

For the upcoming Test match, left-arm finger spinner Liam Dawson has been named as the replacement for Shoaib Bashir.

The 21-year-old off-spinner was ruled out of the rest of the series after he sustained a finger injury from a straight drive off the bat of Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3 at Lord's.

As Dawson marks his return to the Test team for the first time in eight years, TSN takes a look at who he is and how he has performed over the years.

Who is Liam Dawson?

Liam Dawson was born on March 1, 1990, in Swindon, Wiltshire and plays County cricket for Hampshire.

Despite being picked as a replacement for Bashir, Dawson is a proper all-rounder. Apart his skillful left-arm orthodox bowling, Dawson can add crucial runs lower down the order.

He made his Test debut for England in Chennai during their 2017 tour of India and scored 66*(148) to go with 43 overs of bowling, dismissing Murali Vijay and Ravindra Jadeja to end with 2/129.

He went on to play two more Tests against South Africa and took five more wickets.

While Dawson didn't feature in Test cricket after that, he continued playing white-ball cricket and is a part of the current T20I team/

How has Liam Dawson performed in Tests and FC cricket?

In his County Cricket career, Dawson has played 212 matches and has close to 11,000 runs to his name with 18 centuries and 56 fifties.

With the ball, he has taken 371 wickets in 273 innings, including 15 five-wicket hauls for Hampshire.

His all-round skills make him a great addition to the team as a number 8 batter and a reliable bowler.
