Joe Root scored yet another Test century on Friday in the fourth Test match between England and India at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground.

The England batter broke multiple records, surpassing Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test history, behind only Sachin Tendulkar.

Who has scored the most Test centuries among active players?

Root now has the most centuries among active players with 38 tons to his name. He is followed by Steve Smith and Kane Williamson who have scored 36 and 33 Test centuries, respectively. 

Virat Kohli's name does not feature on the list as he announced his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025.
