The first person that comes to anyone's mind when someone mentions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The former India captain has represented the franchise throughout its Indian Premier League (IPL) barring two years when the team was suspended from the competition.

Dhoni has been CSK's captain since its inception and has helped them to four IPL (2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021) trophies in the process.

As the most successful finisher in the history of the IPL, having come clutch for CSK often when they were close to losing a match, many would believe he is the highest-scoring batsman in their history. However, he is actually their second-highest runscorer.

Who is CSK's highest runscorer in IPL?

Dhoni is the most important player in CSK's history, having scored 4879 runs for them. However, it is Suresh Raina who takes the jump on him as the highest-scoring batsman for the franchise in the IPL with 5529 runs.

Followed by Raina and Dhoni is current RCB captain Faf du Plessis in third place. Over the nine years he played for them beginning in 2012 and ending in 2021, the South African batsman scored 2932 runs for CSK.

Among the top 10 players with the most runs for CSK, Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Raydu, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are still playing for the team.
