Former Indian captain and batting superstar Virat Kohli will play his 500th match for India during the second Test against West Indies in Trinidad, starting on Thursday.

Virat Kohli has so far made 499 appearances in his India career, with his debut coming in 2008 against Sri Lanka in an ODI match.

He got dismissed for a meager 12 on that day. 498 appearances later, Kohli is regarded as one of the modern-day greats and has 75 international centuries to his name.

Who has the most appearances in international cricket?

Indian veteran Sachin Tendulkar has made the most number of appearances in international cricket - 664. In a 24-year-long career, the Mumbai-born cricketer hit over 34000 runs and picked up 201 wickets. 

Sri Lankan batter Mahela Jayawardene is second on this list, making 652 appearances for Sri Lanka. He scored nearly 26000 runs throughout his illustrious career. 

The third and the fourth spot on the list is occupied by Sri Lankans as well - Kumara Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya. They played 594 and 586 matches respectively.
