India finally ended their drought at Edgbaston with a thumping 336-run win over England in the second Test, levelling the series 1-1 spectacularly. It was a dominant all-round show led by captain Shubman Gill's twin centuries and a ten-wicket match haul from Akash Deep.

Former skipper Virat Kohli, who announced his retirement from the longest format just before the series, expressed his delight at India's historic triumph in Birmingham.

What did Virat Kohli say about India's victory at Edgbaston?

Kohli posted his thoughts on social media soon after India wrapped up their win in Birmingham. He highlighted the team’s intent and composure throughout the match and gave a special shoutout to key players.

“Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubhman with the bat and in the field and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch,” Kohli wrote on X.

How did India script their first-ever Test win at Edgbaston?

Shubman Gill laid the foundation early with a mammoth 269 in the first innings which is the highest score by an Indian captain away from home. India reached 587 after being asked to bat with support from the other batters like Jadeja and Jaiswal.

England responded strongly with a 303-run stand between Brook and Smith, but once Siraj broke through with 6/70 and Akash Deep backed it with 4/88, India held a 180-run lead.

Gill struck again in the second innings, this time with a quickfire 161, and India declared on 427/6. England were left with a target of 608.

After rain pushed back the start of the final day, it was Akash Deep who took charge. He dismissed Ollie Pope early and later removed Brook once more, ending with 6/99 in the second innings and 10 wickets in the match.

Fittingly, it was Shubman Gill who took the final catch, sealing India’s biggest-ever overseas Test win by runs.
