Shubman Gill's maiden Test double-hundred at Edgbaston against England saw several records tumble on Day 2 of the Test match on Wednesday, July 3.

In the process of getting a fantastic 269, he went past his number 4 predecessor, Virat Kohli, to become the Indian captain with the highest score in a Test innings in just his 2nd Test in the role.

As he got his first daddy hundred under his belt, he didn't give England any sniff of a comeback like a reckless shot at 147 at Headingley.

After coming in to bat at 95/2, he stuck to an end for as long as one could have while stitching 203 and 144 run stands with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to avoid any collapse.

India finished the innings with a mammoth 587-run total, and former India bowler Varun Aaron heaped praise on Gill's 'chanceless' double century and compared him to a Rolls-Royce for his class and elegance.

While reviewing Day 2 of the India vs England Test in Birmingham, Aaron admitted to being a bit disappointed, revealing that he was rooting for Gill's triple-hundred to join Virender Sehwag and Karun Nair in the list of the only Indians to reach the milestone.

He lauded Gill's effort for digging deep and getting a double hundred that was missing from his record till now.

"He would be disappointed that he couldn't get a triple century. He was looking so good — a very soft dismissal. I was really rooting for him to get a bigger hundred. We were all talking about a daddy hundred and Gill getting a big one. It was looking like he was digging deep to get one of his big scores."

Cricketer-turned-expert Varun Aaron drew parallels between the 25-year-old's chanceless knock and Rolls-Royce, which is known for its unmatched smoothness among car enthusiasts.

"Just a brilliant player. I just think in a land where they produce all the Rolls-Royces, I think we saw an Indian Rolls-Royce operate. Just brilliant and so smooth — didn't give them a single chance in 269 runs," he compared.

"Generally, when somebody plays that many balls in a place like England, you definitely see there are some chances that go down and a few loose shots. It just tells you about his mindset, composure and that Shubman Gill wants to be the greatest batter that India has ever seen," Aaron concluded.

As it stands, after his knock, Gill has put India in a promising position ahead of the moving day of the Test on July 4.

England trails by 510 runs after the early 3 wickets, reducing them to 77/3 at Stumps on Day 2 with world number 1 and 2, Joe Root and Harry Brook, respectively, unbeaten.
