Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley with a brilliant partnership. While both openers narrowly missed out on centuries and then Olli Pope was dismissed for 71 runs, Ben Stokes and Joe Root played brilliant knocks to ensure that England posted a mammoth first innings total.

First Root surpassed three legends, Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis and Ricky Ponting, to become the second highest run scorer in Test history. Root was dismissed for 150 runs but Stokes made sure that the total went past 600 runs as the captain played a brilliant knock of 141 runs.
With the lead now more than 300 runs, India have an uphill task to save the Test match and keep their hopes alive to at least draw the away series.
