A player's journey can often be defined by his confidence, determination, and clarity of purpose, and very few exemplify that better than Shubman Gill.

From a young Indian prodigy who caught attention during the U19 World Cup to now becoming India's Test captain at 25, Gill's journey has been nothing short of remarkable and an inspiration to the young cricketers.

Despite all the questions around his Test batting and a lot of criticism, Gill through his performance has managed to silence critics and compelled people to take notice of his majestic batting display.

After scoring a century in his first innings as the Indian test skipper, Gill smashed centuries (269 and 161) in both innings of the second test at Edgbaston. He also amassed the highest score by an Indian skipper, and most runs in a test match (430 runs) by an Indian.

Shubman Gill’s pre-series statement resurfaces after record-breaking IND vs ENG Test performance

As Gill continues his dominance in the series, his old quote that he said before the start of the series has resurfaced on the internet. In the pre-series press conference, Gill said, “I want to play as a batsman and want to dominate the opposition and be the best batsman in the series.”

The Indian skipper has certainly lived up to his words. In just four innings, Gill has racked up 585 runs at an astonishing average of 146.25, including two centuries and a double hundred. His 430-run haul at Edgbaston made him the first player in 148 years of Test cricket to register both a double ton and a 150+ score in the same match.

Although India lost the first test at Headingley, they did control the major parts of the game and troubled the hosts big time with their exceptional batting display.
