Captaining India in Test cricket for the first time, Shubman Gill had a big void to fill in after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
He also batted at the crucial number 4 position, where the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had batted since 1989 — another big responsibility.
Nonetheless, Gill did not succumb to the pressure from the media and fans and got going with the bat quickly, scoring three centuries in the first two Tests.
As a captain as well, Gill looked to be improving with every Test and guided India to their consecutive 2-2 series draw in England.
