One of the key reasons for Thakur being named as the captain for the West Zone was his consistency throughout the 2024/25 season.

He was an integral part of Mumbai's run to the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy, contributing with both bat and ball.

With the ball, he was their second-highest wicket-taker with 35 scalps in 9 matches at an average of 22.62 and a strike rate of 40,17.
