Dewald Brevis, nicknamed 'Baby AB', caught the eyeballs of cricketing fans with his flair and exceptional stroke play coming in as an injury replacement player for Gurjapneet Singh at the IPL 2025.
During a recent podcast appearance, post-lifting the WCL title, De Villiers expressed his thoughts on Brevis not playing for his former franchise and defending champions RCB.
What did AB de Villiers say about Dewald Brevis playing for CSK?
Brevis's growth as a cricketer has been significant over the past few years. He first caught people's attention, representing South Africa U19 at the ICC U19 CWC 2022, and recently lit up the IPL 2025 with his wild-card appearance for the Chennai Super Kings.
Brevis was the leading run-scorer at the U19 World Cup with 506 runs in six innings. In IPL 2025, he scored 225 runs at an average of 37.50 and 180 striker ate, including two fifties.
He is also considered a successor to the great de Villiers, sharing a similar batting style and approach. Before the IPL 2025 mega auction, people believed that RCB might draft the young superstar; however, the batter surprisingly went unsold.

Talking on Subhankar Mishra's podcast, De Villiers said that it's a shame that Brevis is not a part of RCB, and he hopes that he plays for the franchise sometime in the future.
"Got the number 17 on the back, he plays a similar brand of cricket, very attacking, he's still got a lot to learn. That's a shame. But that can still change, never say never,"
De Villiers himself shared a very beautiful relationship with his former franchise, RCB. He is one of the most loved cricketers in Bangalore and even across India, which he calls his second home.
