Speaking on July 9, a day before the Lord’s Test begins, Pant shared his thoughts on Archer’s comeback. But he also made it clear that the Indian team’s focus is not on individuals.

Rishabh Pant welcomes Archer’s comeback, says he’s happy

When asked about facing Archer again after such a long gap, Pant offered a mature and balanced response. He added that Archer’s return will bring intensity to the match but that India is focused on its own preparations

“Personally, whenever I step on the field, I enjoy my cricket and try to give my 100 percent. It's not particularly about any individual. Yes, it's going to be a good contest, because he's also coming after a long break. But yes, I'm happy he's back,” Pant said.

Archer’s return to the Test side brings a major boost to England’s pace attack. The last time he played a Test match was against India in 2021.

In fact, Archer has dismissed Gill twice in the two Tests they’ve played together. With Gill now captaining India and in good form, this match-up could be one to watch at Lord’s.

Archer’s comeback comes at a crucial time for England as they aim to take the lead in the series. The third Test starts on July 10 at Lord’s, and it’s expected to be a tightly contested battle with Archer likely to be unleashed with the new ball.
