Will Ravindra Jadeja face punishment after Rishabh Pant? India all-rounder fist pumps in front of umpire after change of ball on Day 5 at Headingley image

After Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant found himself in a bit of trouble for misconduct on the pitch, Ravindra Jadeja was the latest one to have a go at the umpires on Day 5 of the 1st Test at Headingly.

The veteran all-rounder seemed to have a bit of fun with the umpires in the middle overs while India was chasing a difficult win against the Three Lions.

Earlier, it was the Indian vice-captain who was reprimanded for his on-field actions as he threw the ball away in disgust after a small chat with Australian umpire Paul Reiffel over disagreements with the change of ball.

Pant felt that the ball had worn out enough to be changed, which Reiffel denied straightaway. His subsequent action came under the scanner of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, resulting in a demerit point being added to his disciplinary record.

In this article, The Sporting News takes a look at the possibility of Jadeja getting a punishment for a similar act.

The veteran Indian all-rounder seemed to be overjoyed with the fact that the ball had to be changed finally after the 27th over. Many Indian players had requested the change beforehand, but the umpires weren't interested back then.

Jadeja appeared to throw fist pumps at umpire Chris Gaffaney, celebrating the fact that the ball had to be changed after hours of persuasion.

However, the act seemed to be on a light-hearted note, as Gaffaney himself let out a grin and even put an arm around the all-rounder before instructing him to start bowling. Check the tweet below.

This act from Jadeja is unlikely to face a severe punishment like Pant's, as neither did he violate any disciplinary rule, nor did he show any kind of disrespect to any player or umpire.

The incident occurred right at the stroke of lunch, when both umpires, Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, signalled for a change of ball after it failed to pass the gauge test.

Jadeja's hilarious act drew a reaction from the English fast bowler Stuart Broad, who was quite surprised to see a player celebrating in front of an umpire.
