PSL 2025 shifted to UAE: will IPL be moved out of India? image

This major decision comes just days before a scheduled match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi, which was postponed at the last minute.

The PCB held an emergency meeting with team representatives and overseas players where the prevailing sentiment was clear: most foreign players were uneasy about staying in Pakistan and preferred the league be moved elsewhere. Following that discussion, the board opted to relocate the remaining eight matches to the UAE.

Situations have been quiet similar in India as well, will IPL also be conducted in another contry?

Why was the PSL moved to the UAE?

The main trigger was growing security concerns due to worsening diplomatic and military tensions between India and Pakistan. Though the PCB had initially been looking at alternate venues within Pakistan -- Karachi, in particular -- the move to the UAE was finalised after foreign players pushed for a shift.

Will the IPL also move to a different country?

Chaos off the field has brought the IPL to a screeching halt. The league was officially suspended for one week following the abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals clash in Dharamsala — a fallout of the escalating situation that’s now forced airport closures and made travel a logistical nightmare.

With both teams scrambling by road and rail to reach Delhi, the decision didn’t take long. A call between senior BCCI officials, including Saikia and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, sealed it: pause the league.

No restart date has been confirmed yet. The break is officially set for a week, but the actual return will hinge entirely on how the geopolitical crisis plays out. With only 12 league games and the playoffs left, the clock’s ticking — India’s Test series in England starts June 20, and the pressure to wrap this season before that is real.

As of now, there’s been no move to shift the IPL overseas. For now, it’s just this: one week off, and then the waiting game begins.
