Urvil, the 26-year-old batter, was picked mid-season by the Chennai Super Kings as a replacement player. He made his debut at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he scored a quick-fire 31 off just 11 balls at a blistering strike rate of 281.81.

The batter has now revealed the advice that he received from MS Dhoni post his dismissal, where he tried to play an ambitious shot, which led to his downfall.

MS Dhoni’s post-match advice to Urvil Patel revealed after his explosive IPL 2025 debut

Urvil, in his debut game, got caught out at third man, trying to play a shot of Harshit Rana. While talking to the GC Podcast, the batter revealed his conversation with CSK's skipper MS Dhoni post his dismissal.

“Mahi bhai didn't say I have done good or bad, he just said one thing when I got out, 'You tried hard at the shot, it would have gone for a 4 or 6 if you maintained your shape. From the next game, make sure you keep the shape and do not try to hit too hard; you already have a lot of power.'”

MS Dhoni has been the biggest stalwart of Indian cricket. The great man has led the Indian side to the three ICC trophies and led his franchise to 5 IPL trophies. He is often known for his great knowledge and understanding of the game, and when he speaks, everyone listens.

Urvil, in his three appearances for the Chennai Super Kings, returned with scores of 31 (11), 0, and 37 (19). The batter impressed one and all with his power and six-hitting ability, and is being seen as a great prospect for the franchise in the coming years.

The Gujarat batter also holds the record of the fastest T20 ton by an Indian batter, when he scored a 28-ball century against Tripura in 2024.

With MS Dhoni's career at the fag end, his return to the IPL remains uncertain. In his absence, Urvil Patel might well get the gloves on and play as a keeper-batter for the yellow side in the coming years.
