India’s World Cup-winning skipper MS Dhoni has now added another feather to his cap. The former captain, who led India to three major ICC trophies, has been named in the ICC Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Alongside him, South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Australia’s Matthew Hayden have also been given the same honour this year.

What is the ICC Hall of Fame?

The ICC Hall of Fame was created in 2009 to celebrate the biggest names in cricket history. It highlights legendary players who made a strong impact on the sport.

This list includes over 100 names across generations and every year a few more join this elite group.

How big is MS Dhoni’s Hall of Fame honour?

Dhoni is now the 11th Indian to receive this prestigious recognition. After making his debut in 2004, Dhoni soon became one of the game’s finest leaders.

He took India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Apart from his captaincy, Dhoni was also known for his solid performances with both bat and gloves.

Speaking about the honour, Dhoni said,

"It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever."

Who else joined MS Dhoni in the ICC Hall of Fame Class of 2025?

This year’s list also included some more famous names. Along with Dhoni, Matthew Hayden and Hashim Amla were two of the most talked-about inclusions.

Hashim Amla, known for his calm style and heavy run-scoring, had this to say:

"It is an honour to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, especially alongside Graeme. The Hall of Fame includes some of the most celebrated players in the history of cricket, all of whom have big achievements. Such recognition feels surreal, and I am really thankful."

On the other hand, Hayden, who was a key part of Australia’s dominant batting line-up in the 2000s, expressed his joy in below words:

"The ICC Hall of Fame includes many of my heroes of yesteryear as well as contemporaries whom I admired and enjoyed competing against. Each of these players gave something to the game in their own way. It is incredible to be recognized along with them."

Apart from Dhoni, Hayden, and Amla, other names added in 2025 include Daniel Vettori, Graeme Smith, Sana Mir, and Sarah Taylor.
