MS Dhoni's leadership legacy remains unmatched in Indian cricket and fans often wonder if the former skipper could one day return to the national side in a new role - as head coach. His tactical mind and calm demeanor make him an obvious candidate in the eyes of many.
But the demands of international coaching - combined with Dhoni's current commitments in the IPL have sparked debate over whether such a move is realistic.

Aakash Chopra on why MS Dhoni won't take up India head coach role
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra made it clear he doesn't see Dhoni stepping into the India head coach job. The former opener pointed to the heavy workload and constant travel involved.
"Coaching is a difficult job. Coaching keeps you as busy as you were when playing, and sometimes even more than that. You have a family, and you've lived your life out of a suitcase. You don't want to do that job now," Chopra explained.

He added that while short IPL stints may suit ex-players, a full-time coaching role with India is an entirely different commitment.
"If you become a full-time Indian head coach, it's a commitment of 10 months in a year. I don't know whether Dhoni would have that much time. I'll be amazed if he has that much time," he said.
For now, Dhoni's attention remains firmly on the Chennai Super Kings. The five-time champions endured a poor IPL 2025 season- finishing last on the table under his interim captaincy.
Looking ahead, Dhoni admitted that the squad needs reinforcements - especially after struggling without Ruturaj Gaikwad. The veteran keeper turned 44 in July.
He acknowledged that CSK haven't been up to standard in the last two years but promised changes in the upcoming auction.
What's next for MS Dhoni?
Whether or not Dhoni takes up a coaching role with India in the future, his presence in the IPL - as player, mentor or leader, remains crucial. For now, fans can expect him to continue shaping CSK's path while his name will inevitably remain linked to bigger roles in Indian cricket.
