Morne Morkel set to leave Indian team? BCCI mull over shuffling Gautam Gambhir's coaching after England series image

The Indian cricket team's support staff could see major changes following the ongoing Test series against England with the BCCI reportedly considering a reshuffle ahead of the home series against West Indies later this year.

According to The Telegraph, BCCI is preparing to review the performance of backroom personnel - with bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate likely to be replaced.

Although both may continue until the Asia Cup in September due to logistical constraints, sources suggest the board is no longer convinced by their contributions - especially in the Test format.

Morne Morkel and Ten Doeschate under scrutiny

Morkel - appointed under new head coach Gautam Gambhir, has drawn criticism for failing to develop a reliable pace option during his tenure. The recent decision to play rookie Anshul Kamboj, who struggled to clock speeds above 120 km/h, only added to the doubts around his effectiveness.

As per The Telegraph, one source close to the developments stated: "The coaches always talk of balance but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences."

Ten Doeschate's role has also come under question with little clarity on his specific responsibilities and visible impact on the team's performance.

Gautam Gambhir safe for now, but selectors in the spotlight

Despite the poor red-ball results under Gambhir (just four wins in 13 Tests) before the Manchester match, the BCCI is not considering a change at the top. Officials reportedly believe the team is in a transitional phase and are willing to give the new leadership more time.

Meanwhile, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and East Zone representative Shiv Sundar Das are also under pressure. Disagreements between the selectors and team management, including Kuldeep Yadav's continued exclusion,n have raised eyebrows.
