Yashasvi Jaiswal has set a high benchmark for himself in his short international career, scoring over 2200 runs in just 24 Tests, with a highest of 214*.

At just 23, he has scored centuries in three out of the four away tours he has played in the West Indies, Australia, and England and is regarded as the present and future of Indian batting.

As he continues to receive plaudits from around the world, one of his biggest compliments has now come from Michael Clarke, who has 8643 Test runs at an average of 49.10, including 28 centuries.

The former Australia captain has regarded Jaiswal as this generation's Virender Sehwag.

Why did Michael Clarke compare Jaiswal to Virender Sehwag?

The Mumbai batter began the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with a century in Leeds and ended the series with another century in a must-win match at the Oval.

However, the southpaw could not score big runs consistently throughout the series. Jaiswal only managed to score two more fifties in Birmingham and Manchester, respectively.

Reflecting upon the final Test of the series on his YouTube channel (Beyond23 Cricket Podcast), the Aussie legend compared Jaiswal's playing style to Sehwag's, calling him a high-risk and high-reward player.

"The way he [Jaiswal] plays, with someone like him opening the batting, if all goes to plan and he has the career that we think he is going to have — and he is going to, because he is a superstar — it's going to be a lot like Sehwag," Clarke claimed.

"He is that risky top order, aggressive, sets the intent for your team style of batsman. You have got to accept that he is gonna play some innings that you watch a go 'Oh, what a superstar, what an amazing player' like in the second innings [at Oval] but he is gonna nick the occasional ball, get a low score and hit one to backward point or play a pull shot that will go straight up," he continued.

"He will continue to get better, but the way he plays like Sehwag, when Sehwag was on, he was unstoppable, but sometimes he got out playing the big cover drive and nicked it for a duck," he concluded.

According to Clarke, the fans and media must stay patient with Jaiswal. The Indian opener ended the series with 411 runs at an average of 41.10, two fifties and two hundreds and a high score of 118(164) at the Oval in a winning cause.

What's next for Yashasvi Jaiswal?

Next, the batter will represent the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, which starts on August 28. His Mumbai and India teammate Shardul Thakur will captain the team.

He is then expected to return to the India camp ahead of the West Indies Test series later in September.
