India’s five-Test match tour of England is just around the corner and as the team gears up for the long summer, the spotlight is once again on Jasprit Bumrah.

The 31-year-old fast bowler has returned to red-ball cricket after an intense IPL season and questions are already swirling about how much he will be expected to bowl in the demanding English conditions.

In a chat with Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports, Bumrah spoke about managing his workload and whether fans can expect the same marathon spells he bowled during the Australia tour.

What did Jasprit Bumrah say about bowling long spells in England?

Reflecting on his long spells in Australia, Bumrah explained that the context of that series: India were fighting to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

This meant that he had to push his limits. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he will do the same in England.

"In Australia, there were certain scenarios that we had to push extra because the series was on the line but going further, you have to be smart sometimes," he said on Sky Sports Cricket.

While reiterating his desire to give his all for India, Bumrah acknowledged the toll Test cricket takes on fast bowlers - especially with tight schedules and limited recovery time.

"Yes, I’ve prepared really well, but I have to be smart as well because I’m not becoming younger by the day. I want to play all three formats, and for that, I need to take care of my body," he added.

After the heavy IPL season, Bumrah confirmed he is physically in a good place and ready for the England challenge. He credited the team’s preparation process for the smooth transition from T20 to Test match readiness.

"Body’s feeling good, all good, no issues. Even during IPL, we planned our weekly load carefully so there isn’t a sudden spike when we switch formats," he concluded.
